Bringing the Excluded Back into Community

Jozi’s Nut Butters is an Oasis South Africa social enterprise business with the purpose of creating jobs in our local community of Johannesburg for unemployed women graduating from our Bridge The Gap life skills and leadership course. Many of these young people are often excluded in the employment market and left with very little choices. Our Oasis community’s desire is for community, where everyone is included, making a contribution, and reaching their God-given potential. Thus, in this new endeavor we prioritize a supportive workplace where women can grow and acquire the professional and life skills they need to earn a living wage. On top of the stipend they receive, our business model also includes a bursary for university to study.

By hand, we create quality, artisan nut butters that are completely all natural and healthy as well as very unique and delicious. With every jar purchased, all funds go directly to support the women who make the nut butters (their stipend and study bursary) as well as other community youth programmes of Oasis South Africa.

We are hoping to invite others to join us in a movement of supporting local communities through quality products in Joburg and beyond! And we are keen to alter the stereotypes surrounding neighborhoods like ours (Cosmo City and inner-city Joburg) through our nut butters and the opportunity they provide to cross “borders” and share our story. We also believe that mutual giving and receiving shapes empowering relationships which remind both the maker and the buyer – who both give and receive in this exchange – that they are both invaluable, made in the image of God and interconnected.
